A landmark deal has been made today between one of the biggest social media platforms, TikTok, and the Women's Six Nations.
It's the very first time since the creation of the tournament, known as the five nations, back in 1996, that there will be a title sponsor for the tournament. Video sharing app TikTok has confirmed a 4 year deal with the competition, as well as becoming an official partner for the men's six nations and the autumn nations series.
The arrangement will run until at least the 2025 Six Nations, and a statement said "investment from TikTok will be felt by each union".
This is something to get incredibly excited about, with the world finally catching up with women's sports. This deal will be a gamechanger, with the nations finally getting what they need to boost their squad, the coaching and so many other factors that'll make the tournament so much more competitive.
TikTok released a statement saying:
"A seminal moment for the Women's game, and testament to the commitment of Six Nations Rugby and all six Unions, to identify a partner that shares the passion for the development of Women's rugby. With a huge year for Women's rugby set to unfold, TikTok recognises its responsibility to promote the players, teams, Unions and stories within the sport. As such, it has committed significant investment and promotional support to drive the growth of audience engagement with Women's rugby."
Furthermore, Rich Waterworth, general manager of TikTok Europe said:
"We're especially delighted to be the Title Sponsor of what is now the TikTok Women's Six Nations; as a platform that's built around inclusion, we are passionate about giving an equal footing to men's and women's sport."
As a young woman in rugby, I am so excited to hear that TikTok will be the title sponsor of the Women's Six Nations. TikTok is an app that appeals to a wide audience, and this now gives women's sport the opportunity to really spread it's wings and fly.
