The new rugby season is coming up pretty quickly for the women playing in the Premier 15's. With preseason already up and running, the girls look in full flight for what's coming up from September onwards - that intense need to win each game in order to secure playoff positions to try and win the trophy eventually.
With that being said, I feel I should try and predict the outcome of the upcoming season. Obviously it might be very inaccurate in the end but only time will tell. So, lets get into it.
Evidently, the likes of Wasps, Saracens, Harlequins and Loughborough will all be strong contenders and favourites to win the title, but I think there's some underdogs in there too.
Being as unbiased as possible, I really think Exeter will shine this season, they put in a workload last season, especially nearer the end, considering they had only been established as a team at the beginning of that season. They've got some proper powerhouses in the scrum, and the homegrown talent of the Chiefs will be sure to shine through too. I think they have a shot at making playoffs if they work hard enough for it.
Another underdog for the playoffs has to be Bristol. They've signed some absolutely class players alongside those already at the club, such as Leanne Riley and Abbie Ward, both from Harlequins. They've also got a new coach, Dave Ward, Abbie's husband! A change in leadership might benefit this west country club. That being said, having superstar players doesn't necessarily mean you'll profit unless you can work together, and so they'll need to train hard.
Honestly, after the crazy few years we've had, anything can happen and so the title is really up for grabs by anyone, who knows, a few mishap games for certain teams might really derail them, or they could pounce at the opportunity to get better.
I'm so excited to have the premier 15's back very soon, I'm hoping to get to a few games this season too! Hopefully I'll be able to attend the final this year.
