In life we often talk about who our inspirational people are, from the finest of footballers, to the amazing artists. I love that in today's society, we let people know we appreciate them, we voice our opinion. We are first to make sure that work by those who are trying does not go unnoticed.
So, you may be wondering, who are my heroes? Well, to start off with I definitely have to mention that all the keyworkers of this covid-19 pandemic are heroes to me, they've gone above and beyond to help our country in such a time of worry and distress. However, moving on to the women's sporting heroes and why they are so inspiring to me. In this blog, I'm going to list my top 3 heroes currently.
In no particular order, to start off this list we have the wonderful Zee Alema. Zee is so inspiring to me, because she's shown me and many other people that if you want something enough, you're going to work hard for it regardless of any other factor. She's set herself the goal of playing for the Red Roses in the near future, and she's working on this everyday, mentally and physically. She hopes to be the first black Muslim woman to play for England. She knows she'll have to make sacrifices, but she won't give up no matter how hard it gets. This is exactly why she makes it into my current top 5 inspirational sporting women.
Another person making big moves in the women's rugby world is the amazing Flo Williams, a Wasps flyhalf. Not only is she an amazing rugby player, but she's changing the insight into women's sport as a whole. Flo set up the perception agency which aims to change the perception of women's sport through the use of marketing. She used the #getevolved hashtag to show people that women in sport aren't the ones that need to change, the people who are making these negative comments need to evolve and adapt. Overall, she's a great rugby player, a great person and a great campaigner for something deserving of change.
Finally, Rachael Burford, captain of Harlequins rugby club makes my top 3 for many reasons. The first reason being, she's always been a cracker of a rugby player, featuring in the winning 2014 world cup squad. Another reason why she's so inspirational to me is because of her set up of the girls rugby club, formerly known as the Burford academy. Rachael is inspiring a nation of young girls through voicing her opinion when she knows something isn't right, she runs camps for girls to learn some more rugby from people who've made it to the top. Rachael is an overall nice woman and she's got a lot more in her to shine - I just know it.
That finishes off my top 3 heroes of the current time, make sure you thank your heroes too. Who are people that are inspiring you at the moment?
I don’t have any heroes as such but anyone who does something for someone else without gain for themselves is a hero in my book. :-)
