Women's rugby is growing at such a quick rate - quicker than men's rugby that's for sure. 2.7 million women play rugby, and so many are beginning to take interest in the sport, regardless of age.
Having said this, women are still expected to wear shorts that fit poorly, kits that are hand-me-downs from the boys teams, play on the worser pitches. All things that are crucial to the lack of development in the women's game.
But why? The why is a because of a lack in funding in local areas, the county boards not putting enough into the development of the women's game and so many other factors that impact women.
However, it is changing, many rugby clubs put so much into their girls/women's teams which is absolutely brilliant to see. People such as Rachael Burford and the Girls Rugby Club are doing all they can to try and change the negative perceptions of women's rugby.
What would efficient funding mean for the girls and women playing our wonderful sport? Well, it would mean that they could invest in some nicely fitting tailored shorts that are comfortable for women. Examples of brands who make specialised women's shorts are Ruggette RFC (https://ruggetterfc.com/) and Scrumbum (https://scrumbum.co.uk/).
It also means the teams could have their own brand new kit instead of wearing ones which don't have the team logo on, that are too big and still smell of male because they never wash out properly.
Having funding means both these things and so many more which would help the future of women's rugby.
If you ever have time, please help local clubs with their women's teams - it'll go a long way.
